Vrrrrooom, Vrrrrooom…Vehicle Fair!

What kid doesn’t love a big shiny fire engine? A snow plow? A front-end loader? Okay, so maybe the front-end loader doesn’t pull them in like the fire truck, but fun just the same! Mark your calendar for Friday, September 11, 2009, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for the annual Vehicle Fair & Open House at the Harley Hopkins Family Center.

Brought to us by Hopkins ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education), the evening isn’t just about exploring big machinery. Kids can get their face painted, join in fun classroom activities, and there will be free refreshments for the whole family.

Free Teddy Bear Band outdoor concert

A favorite of kids and adults for years and years, The Teddy Bear Band is playing a free concert as part of the Music In the Park series in downtown Hopkins. It’s outdoors, in a park, and it just got put into my calendar — Thursday, July 23 at 7 p.m.

Dipping the toes into Cloth Diapers?

Oh how the cloth diaper has changed from the days of yore. Yes, you can still buy the old fold-and-stuff, but the latest generation of cloth diapers is amazing. Once I got past the yuck-factor (my washing machine), and with a lot of advice from some great co-workers, I was on the cloth-diapering bandwagon.

My pregnant sister-in-law just asked about our choice, and I had these links for her that were quite helpful: DiaperPin.com has some of the best getting started FAQs, plus tons of reviews of many of the most popular diapers. If you’re traveling by Madison, Wisconsin, you may want to take a side-trip to Nikki’s Diapers to check out their store — a great one-stop locale to touch and feel the many varieties that exist. The StarTrib just did an article on the cloth diapering too.
